As part of its machinations before severing its connections with Cruise, Paramount leaked to the press the information that the deal was worth $10 million annually; however, the development deal actually was for $3 million per annum. At the time of the announcement, Cruise and his advisers were considering Paramount's new offer of $2 million per year in development money when Redstone dropped this bombshell. The news gave rise to speculation that Paramount has run out of cash as it reportedly has told other development partners with which it has deals to use their own cash for the rest of the year, with the proviso they will be reimbursed come 2007.

简单理解一下，就是派拉蒙说MI3票房不好（北美14名，全球第8名，对啊，票房真低啊【棒读】），终止与TC长达14年的合作，并宣称是奥普拉秀那个事情的影响（潜台词就是觉得他没有价值了）。然后评论家震惊了，因为TC还在北美票房榜首呆着呢，而TC的电影收入在前6年里占了派拉蒙总收入的1/3，之前一年还连续第七次被评为票房号召力第一的明星（在下方的[评选/排名/奖项]里有这个排名）。然后派拉蒙又“泄露”了这笔合作每年要出1000万美元，然而事实上只有300万美元（空口造700万，厉害厉害【棒读】 ）这个时候，TC正在考虑派拉蒙提出的新建议——每年200万，然后派拉蒙突然扔下一颗重磅炸弹——解约吧。

 背景：波姬小丝当时出现产后抑郁，在服用一种名叫“帕罗西汀”的药物，这是目前抗抑郁药里副作用比较小的品种，但副作用也很大（具体内容不列出，可以直接搜索），且这种药开始服用就不能突然停药，一旦停药脑里补充的血清素不足，会引起停药反应。但波姬小丝当时的抑郁症状比较严重，虽然吃药对身体影响很大，总的来说还是对她有帮助。但她的书里也写到，抑郁症状缓解后，克服停药反应也同样艰难。

 阿汤当时并没想到波姬小丝的症状是这么严重的类型，认为她通过锻炼并服用一定的维生素便能度过那段时期。但是作为公众人物，或是单纯的作为一名男士，他这么说话确实欠考虑，毕竟他这辈子都没什么机会体验一把产后抑郁。

 这是阿汤当时的原话：“These drugs are dangerous. I have actually helped people come off。 You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things。Here is a woman, and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented woman. 说到服药过量的事情，再解释一点，他之所以对服药过量问题这么敏感，第一是因为美国本来就存在依赖药物的不良习惯，尤其精神类药物；第二就是由于保罗纽曼的影响，保罗的儿子78年就是因为服药过量而去世的，当时只有28岁，所以保罗的后半生一直在和这类问题斗争，而他和阿汤的感情一直都像父子一样亲密，所以可想而知他的影响了。
